A new type of cyber fraud is spreading fast, and many people are falling for it without realizing the danger. It is called the “mobile wedding link” scam, and it can wipe out your bank account in minutes.
The scam usually starts with a message on WhatsApp or SMS. You may receive a wedding invitation link from an unknown number or sometimes even from a hacked contact. The message looks normal and friendly, so most people click the link. But the moment you open it, harmful software can enter your phone.
This malware gives scammers access to your phone’s data. They can read your messages, see your passwords, and even get into your banking apps. Since they can also read OTPs (one-time passwords), they can easily transfer money from your account without you knowing.
Cyber experts say this scam works because it uses emotions. Wedding invitations feel safe and common, so people don’t doubt them. But this is exactly what the scammers want. Once the malware is installed, the victim’s phone becomes fully exposed.
To protect yourself, remember these simple steps:
- Do not click on links from unknown numbers. Even if it looks like a wedding or event invite, always verify with the sender.
- Be careful with unexpected messages, especially if they ask you to download something.
- Keep your phone updated with the latest security features.
- Use trusted antivirus apps to detect harmful activity.
- Never share your OTP or bank details with anyone.
- If you notice unusual bank messages or your phone acts strangely, inform your bank immediately and change your passwords.
This scam is rising quickly, but staying aware can save you from big losses. Be alert, think before you click, and share this information with friends and family so they don’t fall into the trap.
